International Baccalaureate Program
WELCOME TO OUR INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM AT WINSTON CHURCHILL MIDDLE SCHOOL!
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) is designed for students between the 6th – 10th grades. The purpose of IBMYP is to provide a thorough study of the various core disciplines, a holistic view of knowledge, intercultural awareness and communication, and the development of global ethics and values. The aim is to awaken the intelligence of students and teach them to recognize relationships between school subjects and the world outside the school walls by combining knowledge, experience and critical observations. International Baccalaureate schools are known for their rigorous college preparatory program.
Along with a core curriculum that meets and exceeds district standards, students are involved in community service, high school level courses in a second language, and involvement in visual and performing arts. You can find tabs on the left for more information about community service requirements, language courses, and the visual and performing arts offered at Churchill.
Winston Churchill Middle School is one of more than 4,000 International Baccalaureate schools in 150 countries around the world. Winston Churchill has undergone the exacting authorization process that includes extensive teacher training at regional and on-site workshops, hosting the IBMYP evaluation process, and ongoing self-evaluation studies. For more information about IB’s global organization, you can find a link below to the IBO website and brochures.
IBMYP at Winston Churchill focuses on moving students toward becoming people who reflect the attributes of an international person. The curriculum focuses on global issues that will not resolve themselves without deliberate action on the part of citizens who understand the complexities of these issues. Students leave Winston Churchill informed about current global challenges, such as conflict and its control; economic systems; global belief systems; human rights and social justice; planet management: resources, energy, and environment; as well as political systems.
Winston Churchill Middle School provides the initial IBMYP years: grades 6th through 8th which continues, if the student chooses, at Mira Loma High School for grades 9th and 10th. Both Winston Churchill and Mira Loma’s IB coordinators, teacher and staff provide ample support to facilitate the IBMYP’s student’s transition from middle to high school, including an 8th grade group visitation day to the Mira Loma campus. You can find more information on Mira Loma’s IB program and application process in the tab on the left.
In addition, Churchill’s IB program has a valued and active Parents Organization – the Churchill IB PTO. The mission of the parent organization is to provide financial and operational support for the critical needs of the IBMYP not covered by the school and district budgets.
